Sinfully short synopsis: A killer red guitar awakens to discover that he’s the Rif’Tone Guitar Company’s 1000th creation—and the coveted prize in their “What’s So Ter-RIF-ic About A Rif’Tone?” essay contest. With hardly time to learn the ropes of his new consciousness, including the power to transmogrify into human form, he’s whisked from the Rif’Tone factory by the lucky winner, Jonny McMann—who has no idea how special his new guitar really is.
With the guitar that he names ‘Riff,’ Jonny believes that his dream of following in the footsteps of his 80’s rockstar hero has become a reality. But when his own inflated ego and a malicious trickster punk lead to an embarrassingly bad performance, he blames Riff for the disaster and sells him.
Now, rejected by his best friend, set adrift and friendless in an unfamiliar world, lonely yet forbidden to reach out to anyone in the human world, Riff bounces from punk band to pawn shop to rockstar mansion, where he finally gets his chance to make it big by filling in for the ailing Loretta-the Original Rif’Tone Guitar-whose band The Dreamz is preparing to go on tour. But without Jonny, whose dreams he once shared, the success seems hollow indeed. Meanwhile, Jonny realizes his boneheaded mistake and launches a desperate search for his beloved guitar. But will he find Riff before it’s too late, or is it his Fate to lose him forever? One thing is for sure: only the power of true friendship can bring them back together again!
